Green Infrastructure & Low-Impact Development Solutions Using 3D Cellular Confinement
september 1, 2021
New developments can enhance public spaces and provide basic needs, such as housing and employment; however, we must consider the environmental effects of these developments in the design stage. As more impervious surfaces are introduced into the natural environment, concerns such as stormwater runoff and the heat-island effect have increasingly been addressed through the adoption of green infrastructure and low-impact development practices. This can be accomplished by integrating systems that reduce runoff and promote natural water infiltration within the ever-increasing built environment.READ MORE...
Making Construction and Demolition Waste Work Towards a Sustainable Future
SEPTEMBER 1
In 2018, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a report stating that nearly 600 million tons of construction and demolition waste was created in the United States, which is more than double the amount of municipal waste that was generated during the same time. Construction and demolition waste includes materials such as concrete, wood from buildings, asphalt from roads and roofs, gypsum from drywall, metal, bricks, glass, plastics, salvaged building components, trees, stumps, earth, rocks, etc. According to the same report from the EPA, 455 million tons of this construction and demolition waste was directed to next use, and 145 million tons of the waste was sent to landfills. The waste that was directed towards next use was primarily used as landfill, according to the report. READ MORE...

Post-Contract Departments will Play a Critical Role in Saudi Arabia's Growth
SEPTEMBER 1
Over the past year, Saudi Arabia has taken monumental steps to overhaul the nation's real estate market. The Kingdom's Vision 2030 initiative is central to this plan, as it challenges the industry to jumpstart the economy, accelerate the nation's commitment to sustainability, and construct a million new homes. The Vision 2030 initiative requires architects and engineers to develop creative solutions to frame the future of Saudi Arabia in a short time period. In order to meet the moment, architects, engineers, and construction professionals will have to work in tandem to be more efficient and within budget.READ MORE...

Everything's Bigger in Texas: A P3 Mega Roadway Project Comes to Life on an Accelerated Timeline
SEPTEMBER 1
Established in the mid-1800s, the still-booming metropolis of Houston, Texas is now the fourth largest American city with a population of approximately 7 million people. The region's tremendous growth began to take a toll on its roadways, including the critical North-South State Highway 288 (SH 288) transportation corridor.READ MORE...
Reimagine the Future of Transportation
SEPTEMBER 1
By 2050, the world's population is expected to increase by about 2 billion people, from 7.9 billion to 9.7 billion. And, while growth rates vary greatly across different regions, in the eyes of the United Nations, the future of the world's population is most definitely urban. Around 55 percent of the world's population live in urban areas, and in the United States the figure is already 80 percent. And, it is the combination of a growing population and increased urbanization that is placing a huge amount of strain on the infrastructure assets that support nearly every aspect of life. However, I would argue that it is our roads, railroads, and bridges that will be most affected. As for the foreseeable future, these critical networks are the only way to keep our cities, and our countries moving. READ MORE...

Are Small Daily Losses Eating Up Your Budget? How the Most Competitive Teams Are Controlling Costs
SEPTEMBER 1
How many days would it take your team to realize a small loss of $1,800 today on one of your jobs? Now imagine if those same processes from today are repeated during the job until the loss is noticed. Just three days of production would result in a loss of $5,400. Seven days grows into $12,600. If it takes a full 30 days, that's $54,000 in losses that could have been avoided if the loss was caught on day one.READ MORE...

aired august 19 and 26, 2021
Join CHANCE® for a two-part webinar to learn how extreme events such as earthquakes, tsunamis, storm surges, hurricanes, floods and other natural disasters often cause substantial damage to the foundation of existing structures that requires rapid response for repair. In some areas, recurring events produce repeating damage to traditional foundations of lightly loaded residential and commercial structures. Learn why helical piles are an attractive engineered solution that can be used to provide rapid high capacity load bearing characteristics in most geologic settings for both new foundations and remedial repair. watch now!
